Stripe and Paradigm Unveil Tempo Blockchain for Stablecoin Payments with OpenAI and Visa Support
Fintech giant Stripe and crypto venture firm Paradigm have announced Tempo, a new layer-1 blockchain optimized for stablecoin payments. The ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible network aims to deliver high-throughput, low-cost transactions for global business use cases, with design input from OpenAI, Visa, and Shopify.
Tempo will allow fee payments in any stablecoin and incorporate advanced privacy features while targeting over 100,000 transactions per second. Paradigm founder Matt Huang emphasized the need for payment-optimized infrastructure as stablecoins gain mainstream traction, noting current systems remain disproportionately focused on trading applications.
The project's development follows Fortune's August report about the blockchain, which was initially hinted at in a Stripe job listing. This collaboration between traditional finance heavyweights and crypto natives signals growing institutional interest in blockchain-based payment solutions.
